While on your job search, make sure you configure your email and fill in the Display Name. This way, the people you are emailing can search for your name “Mike” and find you rather than losing your email because you didn’t fill out a display name!
On a regular basis we get emails from candidates like email@example.com . All we see in our Inbox is this meaningless email address instead of the person’s name. This makes finding this person much harder especially if they don’t have a signature in their email. As a candidate, you don’t want this.
Here is how to change your Display name in Outlook, Gmail and Yahoo:
Gmail: Open Gmail and click on “Settings” (top right next to your email address). Then, click on the “Accounts” tab. Now click “edit info” next to your name and email address. Select the second option and type the display name you want.
Outlook: On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts. Click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next. Select your Internet server provider (ISP) account, and then click Change. Under User Information, in the Your Name box, type your name the way that you want other people to see your name.
Yahoo: Click Options in the upper-right corner of your Yahoo! Mail page and select Mail/More Options.
From the list on the left, click Accounts.
Click Yahoo! Mail under Accounts
In the your ‘From’ name” field, enter your name exactly as you’d like it to appear within your outgoing messages. Click the Save button to put your new settings into effect.
